The biographer has to define the myth, explain the story and identify the individual who is enshrined within.

This has been due to the growth of Methodism in the United States. It is due to the fact that the story of Barbara Heck is predominantly based upon her contribution to the greater cause and her name will forever be linked. Barbara Heck was involved fortuitously at the time of the emergence of Methodism in the United States and Canada and her reputation is built in the natural characteristic of a very popular organization or movement to celebrate its origins in order to strengthen its sense of tradition and connection to its past.
